My wife and I love practicing cosmetic dentistry. It's meticulous, it's a blend of art and science, and you can often see on people's faces how much of a difference it makes in their lives. For some patients we've worked with, it's given them an amazing newfound sense of confidence, and that mean all the difference in someone's life sometimes. It's a niche within dentistry that comes with its own set of rewards.
One of the interesting things about cosmetic dentistry is how rapidly it has changed even in the time we've been practicing it. It's way more affordable than it was a decade ago, there are way more treatments available, and some of the things we can achieve with digital imaging equipment and materials these days are simply mind blowing. If you've ever wished you were more confident in your smile, now is the time to think about cosmetic dentistry!
To help demystify cosmetic dentistry, we'd like to tell you about a few amazing advancements and treatments in the field.
Digital Imaging in Cosmetic Dentistry
The capabilities of modern digital imaging equipment have vastly improved the ability for dentists to produce consistent, effective results. This is especially true for cosmetic dentists. Digital x-rays, for example, allow us to create better treatment plans and collaborate better with specialists if we need to refer out. They also allow us to magnify images so that we can perform cosmetic dentistry with greater precision.
Another digital imaging tool I like to use is our intraoral camera. In short, an intraoral camera allows me to use a small camera inside your mouth and display the images on a monitor. If you're in our Turlock cosmetic dentistry practice, we can look at the images together. This is great for educating patients, and for showing them what we'll be doing inside their mouths.
Orthodontic Treatments in Cosmetic Dentistry
There are many people that aren't in love with the alignment of their teeth. When we ask patients what they'd change about their smile if they could, the alignment of their teeth is one of the most common answers. The great news is that well-designed, affordable orthodontic treatments allow you to alter your tooth alignment, even discretely if you're an adult and don't want braces.
There are many aligner systems available and marketed under a wide variety of brands. At our practice, we are Invisalign® and Invisalign Teen® certified dentists.
Teeth Whitening and Cosmetic Dentistry
Teeth whitening has never been safer than it is now. There are many chairside treatments administered safely by your cosmetic dentist, and there are many take home kits that can be custom made to fit your smile and your desired level of whitening.
If you'd like a whiter smile, ask your cosmetic dentist what they recommend for teeth whitening. At our practice, we prefer Opalescence® teeth whitening products.
