4 Health Benefits of Straight Teeth

Dec 3 • 2 minute read

A person smiles and reveals perfectly aligned, pearl white teeth.

Straight teeth can do a lot for a person's self-esteem. As we've mentioned in previous blog posts, there's real value in a smile. For some, a straight smile will open real doors in a person's professional and/or personal life. But, for as many aesthetic reasons one might have to try a smile-aligning treatment like Invisalign®, there are just as many hygiene and health reasons to work on a properly-aligned smile.

It's true, when most people come to our Turlock dental practice they aren't looking for cleaner, healthier teeth; they're looking to close gaps or adjust the appearance of their bite so they can show off their smile confidently. The great news is that a well-aligned smile will be healthier and cleaner. Here are some of the awesome health benefits of your teeth being in their optimal place:

  1. Lower Your Risk for Injury. Straight teeth are at less risk for injury. If your teeth are out of place, chances are they have a weak and unsupported foundation, which means even a light impact may result in a lost tooth.
  2. A Financially Healthy Way to Take Care of Your Mouth. If you're dissatisfied with the alignment of your smile, doing something about it now may be financially healthy for you. The earlier a smile is properly aligned, the less it will cost a patient over his or her lifetime for orthodontic treatment. Pay special attention to your kids and make sure they see their dentist regularly.
  3. Keep Your Teeth Cleaner. Straight teeth are easier to keep clean because they're spaced properly apart. This allows your toothbrush and dental floss to do their jobs and hit all the sensitive areas they're supposed to hit. Lower your risk of tooth decay by aligning your teeth.
  4. Improve Your Overall Health. Your teeth and gums are complex biological systems that make up the greater system of your body. Your mouth is, without a doubt, tied into your overall health. Making sure your mouth is as healthy as it can be with proper tooth alignment, hygiene, and dental care will help your overall well-being.

Thanks for Stopping by Our Blog!

There are many orthodontic treatments available to help people straighten their teeth. Traditional braces, clear braces, clear aligner systems, and more are available at your local dental office. At our Turlock practice, we primarily use Invisalign® and Invisalign Teen® for people that don't choose braces. If you're one of our patients, feel free to ask us about these during your next visit.
