Now that summer is here, we hope you're enjoying some time in the sunshine. Some of you will inevitably take to nature go camping with your family. Whether you are car camping at a site with showers and electricity, or roughing it in the bush blazing your own trail, we'd like to share a few practical tips to help keep your oral health in check while you explore the great outdoors.
Plan Your Meals.
This seems simple, but it's an important concept to take into consideration when you're planning your camping trip. Plan your meals based on your energy requirements and try to stay away from candy and sweets while on the trail. Planning your meals consciously can help you make better decisions that won't wreck your oral health, especially if you won't have accessibility or the tools to brush as often or as well as you might in comforts of your own home.
Pack Fruit to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth.
Fruit can be a great source of energy if you're going to be moving a lot and expending a lot of energy maintaining camp. Instead of packing candy to satisfy your craving for sweets to restore that energy, consider packing a few extra oranges or apples. They are remarkably easy to pack and keep well while on the move. If you're backpacking, you can usually keep fruit fresh for days.
Don't Forget Your Dental Floss.
If you're doing any serious camping, you're probably trying to cut down on all the weight you can to save your knees and back. Don't underestimate the importance of packing dental floss while sorting out what goes in your pack. Not only should you ideally be using it to keep your teeth and gums clean at base camp, but it could also be used as a basic low-weight survival tool. In an emergency situation, think of all the things you could do with dental floss: tie a shelter, hook a fish, create a snare for food. The possibilities are endless.
Make Sure Your Toothbrush and Toothpaste Make It on Your Packing List.
If you're a serious camper, you've undoubtedly got a packing list for the necessities. What you're likely to forget in the process of gathering all your gear, however, is your toothpaste and toothbrush. Make sure to put it on your packing list and consider it just as important as your other gear for making sure you're healthy while camping. Don't leave it behind on accident and be stuck in the woods without it for days.
