It's often overlooked just how much the dental industry has changed in such a short amount of time. It's remarkable. And, through rapid advancement, it has improved the quality of life for many people in the world in that brief span.   1. Collectively, Americans will spend about $110 billion on dental care each year.
  2. Out of the $110 billion or so that Americans will spend, about 3% of it will be on cosmetic dentistry.
  3. A Gallup poll recently found that about 34% of Americans don't visit their dentist every year.
  4. The Pew Center conducted a study that discovered one in five kids don't visit the dentist each year.
  5. The Academy of General Dentistry says that, collectively, American students miss about 51million hours of school annually because of oral health issues.
  6. There are about 205,000 working dentists in the United States.
  7. California has 32,000 dentists currently working—the most of any state.
  8. About 70% of dentists are male and 30% female.
  9. 80% of all dentists are general dentists. Orthodontists make up the second biggest group, comprising 5% of all dentists.
