We love cosmetic dentistry at our Turlock practice! For us dentists, it's extremely gratifying to help a patient radiate a newfound or rediscovered sense of self-confidence. Helping someone show off a beaming smile stretching from ear to ear after hiding it for years makes all the schooling and study and practice all worthwhile.
In this post, we're going to share what we found in a 2015 survey from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). Let's take a look at what brings people to their cosmetic dentist, why they get work done, and what popular treatments people are choosing.
Why People Choose Cosmetic Dentistry
People make appointments for cosmetic dentistry consultations for many different reasons. Among the 239 people surveyed by the AACD, the top five reasons people became interested in cosmetic dentistry include:
- They received a referral from a friend or family member who had good results with a cosmetic dentist.
- They learned about advances in materials that produce better aesthetic results.
- They are members of the Baby Boomer generation and wish for a more youthful appearance.
- They read about cosmetic dentistry online.
- They were reached by better dental marketing practices.
Why People Want Cosmetic Dentistry
There are many personal reasons people wish to change their smiles. The driving motivation behind many cosmetic dentistry procedures varies, but the top 5 among the 351 respondents of this survey included:
- To improve physical attractiveness
- To fix a previous cosmetic dentistry procedure
- For an upcoming life event such as a wedding
- For restorative or health reasons
- To look and feel younger
What Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures People are Having Done
Cosmetic dentists have many options in their toolkits. They can provide treatments to almost instantly transform your smile, and they can offer treatments that work over time to bring out your natural beauty.
Answers from 351 dentists surveyed by the AACD revealed these to be the top cosmetic dentistry procedures at their practice:
- Teeth whitening
- Dental bonding
- Veneers
- "Other" (We would've loved to see some of the write-ins for this one.)
- Dental implants
