Veneers

Veneers, also commonly referred to as porcelain veneers or dental veneers, allow dentists to correct dental imperfections such as:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Gaps in teeth
  • Misaligned teeth
  • Stained teeth
  • Uneven smiles

Veneers are thin pieces of durable porcelain. They're custom made and shaped like your tooth. At our dental practice, we use a local dental laboratory to match the veneers to the exact color and contour of your natural teeth.

The Benefits of Veneers

Veneers can be used to completely restore your teeth and smile. They offer a complete smile makeover. In fact, many celebrities opt for veneers to quickly correct dental imperfections, which is why you might hear a cosmetic dentist offer veneers if you ask for a "Hollywood smile." They can be an alternative option to dental crowns, which in some cases may be a more expensive option depending on certain factors.

It is important to know that, similar to most dental restorations and cosmetic dental procedures, veneers may need replaced some day. Most material companies estimate that veneers will last more than ten years. With proper care and regular checkups, they can last much longer.

What Are Veneer Treatments Like?

Getting veneers is usually done in 2-3 appointments. At our dental practice, we usually begin veneer procedures with a consultation so we can understand your goals, explain everything beforehand, and give you time to select the best option for you. Little to no anesthesia is required during the procedure. Getting veneers, in most cases, is virtually painless.

At the beginning of the procedure, the teeth are cleaned to make sure we create a durable bond between your teeth and the veneers. Bonding cement is then placed between the tooth and veneer and a special light beam is used to harden and set the bond. You walk away with a brand new smile full of beautiful teeth.

Care Instructions and Tips for Veneers

Properly caring for your veneers is the key to getting the most value out of them and keeping them looking beautiful. Make sure to talk to your dentist about any special instructions he or she has for you and any specific conditions you may have.

Some general tips for taking care of your veneers:

  • Practice your same oral hygiene routine.
  • Ask your dentist for a toothbrush and toothbrush recommendation. Different materials may have different requirements.
  • Ensure you keep regular dental appointments to ensure your veneers and oral health are in top shape.
  • If you smoke, consider the cost of your veneers reason to quit.
  • Avoids and beverages known to stain teeth, such as dark tea, wine, and soda.
  • Avoid sticky foods and hard foods. Veneers are durable, but they can break. Practice a little extra caution.
